The Amazing History of Tuscany

Tuscany has quite the amazing history. We’re used to the Renaissance history that is behind Tuscany, but it goes a lot further than that. For instance, the Apennine and Villanovan cultures settled in the area around 1350 BC. After that, the Etruscan civilization rose, which is a civilization you may find something out about when you visit Tuscany and you’re looking at many of the historical places that are along the way. This is because the Etruscans laid down a transport infrastructure, implemented agriculture, and started mining.

But it wasn’t too much longer before the Romans established the great Tuscan cities of Siena, Lucca, Pisa, and Florence. New technologies arose and peace was promised.

This then takes us into the medieval period. It is easy to see that cities, such as Florence have a very medieval touch about themselves. This medieval culture then led into the Italian Renaissance, which is where a lot of the history in Tuscany and Florence tends to focus. You have art from the Renaissance by such artists as Leonardo and Michelangelo, Galileo, and Botticelli. This later sparked the modern era of the 1400s. This is when the Medicis ruled Florence and annexed the areas surrounding the city to create Tuscany. Battles have been fought for this area, but now everything is where it is supposed to be.

All of this you will learn about when visiting Tuscany. If you’re into history, Tuscany is the ultimate history lesson. It is also a great lesson in true beauty, great food, and authenticity. We think that when something says it is authentic Italian that it really is. But not until you see, touch, and taste authentic Italian do you know what it really is. And adding some history into that makes a considerable difference. It makes for a great adventure.
